Meet Laura Fine

Laura has served as the State Senator for the 9th District since 2019. Prior to being elected to the Senate, Laura served in the Illinois House of Representatives for 6 years. During her time in the legislature, she has protected a woman's right to choose, made both physical and mental healthcare affordable and accessible, and preserved our environment.

After her husband Michael lost his arm in a horrific head-on collision, Laura's family faced bankruptcy. Their health insurance company refused to pay medical bills and attempted to drop her husband’s coverage. With close to $600,000 in medical bills, Laura fought tirelessly with the insurance company for the quality care her husband needed to recover.

Sen. Fine is a local leader with deep roots in the community. In the Senate, she is the Chair of the Behavioral and Mental Health Committee and a member of the Environment, Insurance, and Healthcare Access and Availability Committees.

As a resident of Glenview most of her life, Laura and both of her sons are proud graduates of Glenbrook South High School. She is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Glenview-Northbrook, the Rotary Club of Glenview Sunrise and the Glenview/Glencoe League of Women Voters.

She received her BA in Telecommunications from Indiana University and her MA in Political Science from Northeastern Illinois University, where she taught for several years.

“In 2012, I ran to represent the IL 17th District in the House in order to take on the powerful insurance industry and to become an advocate for leveling the playing field for all Illinois,” said Laura Fine. “Since then, I’m proud to have worked with my colleagues in the General Assembly to make Illinois a beacon in the Midwest when it comes to reproductive rights, environmental sustainability, and gun safety laws that puts people - not special interests - first.”
